June 20, 2012 This is it. The NC Senate Judiciary II Committee just voted to recommend that the NC Senate concur with the NC House and repeal the NC Racial Justice Act. If you live in North Carolina, please contact your senator now, urging him or her to preserve the Racial Justice Act, and continue to express your concern and outrage to your representative, http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/1576/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=10814. (If you don’t live in North Carolina, please share this message with anyone you know who does.) Like last year’s repeal attempt, the conservative leadership of the NC General Assembly gutted an existing bill that had already been approved by the Senate and inserted the Racial Justice Act repeal language. Because the Senate has already voted on and approved the original Senate Bill 416, which dealt with tire retreads on school buses, they just have to vote to concur with the House’s decision to repeal the Racial Justice Act. Please also continue to call the following representatives and express your dismay that they voted to repeal the Racial Justice Act. Their support is imperative if NC Gov. Bev Perdue vetoes Senate Bill 416.
