July 3, 2012 Yesterday the NC Senate and House voted to override Gov. Bev Perdue's veto of Senate Bill 416, the NC Racial Justice Act repeal bill. While this is one step backwards for the state, our movement has brought North Carolina leaps and bounds forward beyond other Southern states. We shall continue onward. If you live in North Carolina, start by taking a moment to send a message to your senator and representative, responding to their votes. Click here for pre-drafted letters to your particular legislators, http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/1576/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=11040. In recent days PFADP members have sent more than 5,000 messages to legislators and the governor to keep the RJA. We have also kept up our efforts to build a new base of support for repealing the death penalty altogether. As of today, 750 NC congregations, businesses, and local governments passed PFADP's resolutions calling to repeal the death penalty and direct the savings to programs to help murder victims' family members and prevent violent crime. Let's continue to move forward together. Please support the work of PFADP and join us in this effort. If you are interested in getting involved with our death penalty repeal effort, please contact Amanda Lattanzio at amanda (at) pfadp (dot) org or 919.933.7567.
